Community Based Training Services



Goodwill's Community Based Training Program uses real work environments to assess specific work skills that disabled participants currently possess as well as offer training for the development of new skills necessary for successful employment. Program fees are paid for by partner agencies such as the Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation.

Office Training Program

Individuals with an interest in working in an office setting (i.e., customer service, receptionist, reservations, dispatcher, and file clerk) are referred to Goodwill's Office Training Program to assess current skills and receive training on further skills needed to be successful in this line of work. This 10 - 20 day training includes:

    1. Computer Training
  • MS Word
  • MS Excel
  • MS Outlook
  • MS PowerPoint
  • MS Access
  • 2. Typing Skills
  • Practice with Mavis Beacon Typing Software to learn typing skills and increase typing speed to a competitive level.
  • 3. Switchboard Training
  • Hands on training with the receptionist learning phone etiquette, customer service, and dispatch skills.
  • 4. Mailroom Training

    5. Job Readiness Skills
  • Dependability in the Workplace
  • Job Interviewing Skills
  • Telephone Etiquette
  • Business Etiquette
  • Resume Development

Our Office Training Program is offered at our Goodwill Good Neighbor Center located at 1280 W. Cheyenne (@ MLK Blvd.)

Retail Training Program

Goodwill's Retail Training Program assesses and trains individuals with disabilities looking for work in a retail or closely related work setting to determine work readiness. This 10-20 day training includes:

    1. Cashier Training
    2. Typing Skills
    3. Switchboard Training
    4. Mailroom Training
    5. Job Readiness Skills

Our Retail Training Programs are offered at our Nellis (@ Charleston) and Sahara (@Torrey Pines) Goodwill Superstore Locations.

1. How can I receive services?
Services can be received through The State of Nevada Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation, located at 628 Belrose Street, (702) 486-5230. They will refer you to Goodwill for an assessment/training. Services can also be received through such agencies as the Desert Regional Center, Veterans Administration, U.S. Vets and Nevada Youth Parole.
2. What makes me eligible for services?
Any documented disability or barrier to employment establishes eligibility.
3. Does Goodwill Employ People with Disabilities?
Yes, Over 20 % of Goodwill of Southern Nevada Employees has a documented disability.
